OASIS FOUND!
When we finally reached CP10, I’ve never felt
so happy and so relieved. The last run did seem never-ending and I
totally don’t remember the Woodcutter’s trail to be that
long…well, now we know. As we get our passport signed and was told to
get on the road and start running towards the reservoir, my heart sank a
little as I do remember that we still have some way to go. And all of a
sudden, I heard some voices behind us in the forest and decided that we
should pick up our pace, in case it’s any ladies team that had managed
to catch up with us while we had our little “100” adventure.
Once
we hit the tarmac road, we broke into a slow jog while I continuously
kept checking behind to ensure that there are no ladies team sneaking up
on us. However, before long, I can feel my calf muscles starting to
seize up and I started limping. But we still shouldered on and Rina kept
encouraging us to focus on the finishing line to finish that last 200m.
It seemed endless but as we took our last final steps to touch the AAC
banner, there were cheers and shouts from the spectators and when we
finally finished the race, we were elated! Joy not just from finishing a
good race but also for beating the odds from getting ‘Horlan’ and
clinching the top prize!
We
sank ourselves under a huge tree and after stripping ourselves from the
horrible, wet & yucky harness and our stinky and wet shoes, we
devoured the huge buffet spread that welcomed us. It was 3pm at that
time and we’d raced non-stop for a total of 5 hours and 50 mins! I was
famished and thirsty and food and drink never tasted so good.
After
we’re done with filling up our bellies and with relating our
experiences to other teams who were willing to hear our stories, we
waited for Team JAFT to come in, which they did, about half and hour
later. We cheered them when they came in and they were really surprised
that they came in 3rd because 2 of them are actually
‘virgin’ adventure racers. They too devoured the food and we started
relating stories and soon nearly all of us dozed off under the nice
afternoon breeze, under the tree while waiting for the prize
presentation.
And
finally the prize presentation……well, we were happy and were glad to
win quite some amount of Salomon voucher to allow us to buy some nice
Salomon stuff to deck ourselves for the next adventure race?
Next
race, anyone??
