Mongoose
came to TA in a most roundabout way. He took to cycling ‘seriously’ in
1995 and has taken his academic (and cycling) career to North America
where he races for his University team. He was planning to come back for a
holiday and decided to see if there were any nice people he could ride
with in Singapore. Having failed to do that, he found Team Absolut on the
web and decided to try his luck. As far as his nickname goes, he got it as
he created the Snake (a rider in another team) who he will “destroy him
in an epic battle between the forces of Virtue, Truth and Courage (his
own) and the Snake's forces of Darkness, Lies and Dishonour.’
(whatever..?)
His
current job is an a Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate.
He’s
been riding since Primary 1. In the years past, he’s owned a number of
bikes, a Black BMX with solid tires, a Blue BMX with pneumatic tires,
"Cycle to the market" bike, 1995 GT Karakoram, 1996 Proflex 856.
But he dumped all of these to take on his current rides which are a 2000
Specialized Rockhopper for the trails and a 2000 Giant TCR 1 for the pave.
And
here’s one for all the families out there, his biggest influence on his
riding is his father who used to take his brothers and Moongoose cycling
every weekend when I was younger.
His
dream road bike is Pinarello Prince LS or the Giant TdF Special whichever
His
dream mountain bike is Airborne Paka-Wallup or the Cannondale Scalpel.
The
best advice he’s heard in his years of riding is, "Don't force
yourself on a higher gear, drop a gear if you really really can't do it.
Better to spin than to die later."
And
having received that, his advice is to “Tighten all the screws,
including those in your head. Wear a helmet.”
His
best cycling moment was riding with the guys in TA. (Hah!) His worst
cycling moment was being dropped by the Ann Arbor Velo Club boys on only
his 3rd road ride since he got the road bike. (plenty of time for that to
happen with us….)
His
best bike related purchase was a 2nd hand pair Dura Ace cranks, which he
later traded in for new ones! (don’t ask me how this happened but I sure
there was something illegal that took place!) His worst bike related
purchase are a pair of Lake CX201 road shoes. “Most horrible shoes in
the world. Don't fit well and look hell ugly.” And as a Mongoose, you
know he seem some pretty ugly things in his life.

Non Bike Purchase : His digital camera which allows him to capture all
His
worst non bike purchase is paying for dates with girls I don't like. (too
bad girls)
