THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED
With a quick glance of the map,
Becks was swiftly off on her bike leading us through the BT trail and
back to where we initially lay our bikes…but to our astonishment, it
was completely deserted, not a trace of the racks either.. no remnants
whatsoever.
Taking a second route, we
realize we have to bike to Chestnut entrance and we debated if we should
take the short cut by the road but wisely decided not to as we soon see
the marshalls waiting at Echo Valley.
As we plodded our bikes up the
slopes, we saw other teams pushing their bikes, appearing frustrated
with the technicality.. and then whispering disbelief as we tackled the
slopes and rolled down the graveled trail. To be honest, my heart was
thumping so fast, I could hear my panting louder than the screeching
brakes…
Then we felt Mother Nature was
with us as the hot sun beat down our back especially in the our climb up
the barren Botak Hill or Gangsai. For some reason, I was wondering why
we were the only ones.. we then cross the expressway and cycled along
Bukit Panjang, thinking that’s where CP4 is but no marshals insight.
Thank goodness, we scanned the
map and realized we shouldn’t be on the road and quickly peddled back
to cut across to CP4 Zhenghua Park
Initially thought it was along
Bukit Panjang Rd but cannot find any marshalls. Checked map again
and realised we're on the road side of expressway. I quickly asked
if we are going to tackle the very same steep grassy slope with hidden
holes that caused my tumble in the last King of the Jungle bike race..
Difference is, this time, I was
smarter.. I pushed my bike down the slope.. heheh..
As we reached CP5 (connected to CP7)
we saw the puzzled look on the marshalls’ faces.. apparently, we came
the wrong direction via the tougher T15 route.. we are experts at that
now, aren’t we?
