NBA - NO BRAINS ALREADY?
I
only remembered that basketball court, having eaten at the nearby Fatty
Roast once or twice…but, there were 2 other basketball courts at other
entrances of BT? O well, never mind, we didn't lose too much time!
When
we arrived, the marshalls had this gleeful look about them as they
wondered how best to torture us some more. We were asked to do a relay
with a basketball held between our chin and the handlebar. We cleared
that effortlessly!
Next,
shoot while on a bike? After about 3 tries, I managed to pump that ball
into that net - guess I haven't thrown away all my netball shooting
skills after all!
Adjourning
to the fitness station, the marshall gave us 3 more tasks and asked each
of the rest to choose which we wished to execute.
Olaf
cleared the ropework super quick (i.e. ascending a suspended rope, touch
the top of the bar and descend again)…followed by climbing over a high
steel ladder obstacle! The amazing feats of the towering German!
Rebecca
rode along a 10-metre thin concrete curb, and Rina broke into an Indian
dance routine of walking around a suspended wooden obstacle course 4
times while handing onto my sweet Firefly (i.e. my red Trek, which I
believe to be the lightest bike we had).
Next,
we completed the hobbit-scale feat of sliding under a very short bar…the
sort ants crawl under.
And
whaddayaknow? More technical questions? O dearie us! We tried to answer
them as best as we could….one question stood out…."what does
VPP stand for"…the answer? "Very Pathetic People"!
Obviously we were lacking in the "who's who, what's what, of biking
technology and gear" department and for a moment there, we felt
like airheads at a beauty pageant choking on questions! The only
consolation was…. well, Olaf couldn't answer them either!!! Hee hee!
His excuse….he's a roadie by nature! :P
A
couple more penalty points (I think, lost count) and we're off to our
100+ top-up station at Fatty Roast! Our bladders and bottles were dry,
but thanks to Olaf, we had earlier wolfed down some of his gourmet
sandwiches so we weren't tempted by that juicy roast duck and
pork!
We
replenished our tanks and Becks called in for the next clue.
"Lamppost 8 at Lorong Sesuai?" Where the heck is that? Well,
thankfully - have map will travel…Becks looked up Rina's road map and
we hit the road again!
We
contemplated going against traffic and onto the other side of the road….but
being the obedient citizens of Singapore (and Germany and Malaysia) that
we were, we carried our bikes across the overhead bridge!!! I mean…you
never know, there may be plainsclothes marshalls lurking about…. that
bangala worker whizzing by on a bike?….that grandmother waiting at the
busstop?….the little baby in the pram? Togoparts spies, all of them…..
